A useful excavation number depends on the grading sheet, the soil borings and the haul assumptions. Those get read before a quantity is built, and the assumptions that drive the price are stated on the proposal.

Do you bid excavation as a standalone scope or only as a full site package?
Either. BD Excavation bids mass excavation on its own, or packaged with utilities, grading and stone base, whichever the project team prefers. The proposal separates each scope so the work can be compared against the civil set.
How do you handle unsuitable soils and undercut?
Soils-driven work is excluded from the base bid and quoted as unit-rate work billed on actual field quantity under the geotechnical engineer's direction. That keeps the base number clean and stops a soils surprise from becoming a dispute.
What do you need in order to bid?
The civil drawings, the geotechnical report, the bid form and any addenda. A grading sheet and a boring log are the two that change the number most.
