Sanitary sewer mains, laterals and cleanouts

Conduit and dry-utility trenching
Granular bedding and compacted backfill
Trench restoration and site cleanup

Bedding: Granular bedding from below invert to above crown, then compacted backfill per the detail
Shoring: Trench box on deep runs; sloped excavation where depth and soils allow
Coordination: Locates, crossings and conflicts identified against the civil set before the trench opens
Restoration: Trench backfilled, compacted and restored to the surface the plan calls for

Find the conflict
on paper first.

Conflicts between the utility sheet, the grading sheet and the existing field conditions are the single most common source of change orders. Those get found on paper and raised before a machine is on site.

Underground utilities — FAQ

Do you install the water main tap at the city main?

BD Excavation installs the service run and the fire line stub to the building. The tap at the municipal main is coordinated with the utility having jurisdiction; valves and PIV inside the building line are the mechanical contractor's scope.

What depth requires a trench box?

Deep runs are shored with a trench box. Shallower runs are sloped to the soil conditions. Either way the shoring cost is inside the installed price per foot, not added later.

Do you televise the sewer after installation?

CCTV televising is subcontracted to a licensed provider when the specification requires it, and it is identified as a separate line so the project team can see it.
