Land clearing and grubbing

Brush, trees, fence rows and stumps cleared and grubbed — mulched in place where that makes sense, hauled off where it does not.

BD Excavation dozer being mobilized on a lowboy trailer to a clearing site

What we do

Scope of work.

  • Brush and undergrowth mulching
  • Tree removal and stump grubbing
  • Fence row and treeline clearing
  • Building site and lot preparation
  • Material disposition — mulch in place or haul off
  • Rough grading after clearing

• How we approach it

Decide the disposition
before the first tree.

What happens to the material is most of the cost. Mulching in place is fast and cheap; grubbing stumps and hauling everything off is a different job at a different price. That gets settled up front, not discovered halfway through.

Questions

Land clearing and grubbing — FAQ

Do you mulch in place or haul the material off?

Either, and it is worth deciding before the work starts because it is the biggest single driver of cost. Mulching in place is usually the cheaper option when the ground can absorb the material.

Do stumps have to come out?

Only if something is going to be built, graded or farmed over them. If the ground is being left alone, grinding or leaving them is often fine — it depends what the land is for next.

Can you clear a building site and leave it ready to grade?

Yes. Clearing, grubbing and rough grading are commonly done as one mobilization, which is cheaper than bringing equipment back a second time.
