• How we approach it
Dig where the water
already wants to be.
A pond holds water because of what is under it, not because of how deep it is. The soil and the water table decide where a pond works on a property, and it is worth walking the ground before a shape gets drawn.
Questions
Pond excavation and dredging — FAQ
Do I need a permit to dig a pond?
Often yes — it depends on size, location, proximity to a regulated drain or wetland, and the county. That gets checked before any dirt moves. We will tell you what the site needs even if the answer complicates the job.
What happens to the dirt that comes out?
Usually it gets placed and shaped somewhere on the property, which is both cheaper and faster than hauling it off. If it has to leave, that is priced separately and stated.
Can you clean out an existing pond?
Yes. Dredging and cleanout are common on older ponds that have silted in. Access and where the spoil can be placed are the two things that drive that price.
